My thoughts on design

The practice is design-led and founded on strong technical design and sustainability principles. Japanese and Scandinavian design are key influences. My style has been described as warm minimalism, focusing on natural materials and structures that are subtly detailed to convey their natural beauty and form.

I have lived and worked in Devon my entire life. I spend a lot of my spare time immersed in its landscapes, and for me the very best dwellings are the ones that merge seamlessly with their natural backdrop, using materials and details inherent to the place.

About the practice

I’ve fostered good working relationships with local planning departments including the South Hams, Teignbridge, Dartmoor National Park, Exeter and Cornwall, and a large network of trusted consultants and contractors that can be relied upon, I have a reputation for delivering difficult planning permissions, as well as managing challenging projects on time and on budget.

Projects completed include:

  • New build houses and extensions

  • Listed building refurbishments and extensions

  • Barn conversions

  • Offices

  • Master-planning housing schemes for developers

  • Aquariums and theme parks in the USA and Russia

I live with my wife in the centre of Exeter, where she also works as an architect. I have a deep connection with the landscapes of Devon and Cornwall and spend as much time as possible surfing along the north coast and walking on Dartmoor.
