A contemporary side extension to an 1880s semi-detached house in Thorverton. The existing red brick dwelling is characterised by its distinctive double-gable frontage, a feature shared with neighbouring properties and representative of the village's late Victorian architecture.
The project replaces an existing garage and store with a carefully considered two-storey extension that respects the scale, proportions and hierarchy of the original house. Drawing on the existing palette of brick and slate, the extension is designed as a subtle contemporary addition – clearly of its time, yet sympathetic to the character of the heritage asset.
The proposals create a generous open-plan living space at ground floor and an additional bedroom above, allowing the house to adapt to modern family life while preserving the architectural qualities that make the building distinctive.
